The theme of this painting is familiar to all relationships, be they spousal, familial or platonic. The scene is real, taken from a stay on Fang Island on Lake Megunticook in nearby Lincolnville, Maine. The peaceful serenity depicted took a few days to arrive upon, and came only after several conversations in which each member of the couple spoke honestly and compassionately until, eventually, a compromise was reached.
It serves as a reminder to stay gentle and open, trusting in each other’s abilities to arrive at a creative, workable solution—evidenced by the contented Jack Russell, who settled in once peace had, too.
