The process of letting go can be emotional — at least for me! To help me with the task of releasing my youngest child to the world, I created this painting depicting a memory that included both the pain and the expansiveness of allowing someone the freedom to move on. This scene took place on a solo hike along the Mediterranean coast, near the end of a trip with my daughter, during which I felt clear pangs that our relationship needed to make room for both of us to move into the next phase.
The olive trees in the painting mimic the gesture of release in the woman. The three large circular orbs represents the phases of childhood, and the doves in flight remind us of the tender expansiveness that follows release.
